Making the Case For Healthcare Workforce Investment

NOTE: This is a 2-part session. Register for the first virtual session on September 30th, 10-11am through Zoom & mark your calendar for October 14th, 2-3:30pm at the Chicago Community Trust offices (33 S. State) for the 2nd session. You will receive a calendar invite with more information closer to the date.

Healthcare organizations play a vital role in creating pathways to quality careers while building the workforce needed to meet the growing healthcare needs of our communities. Investing in workforce development can strengthen talent pipelines, improve retention, reduce staffing challenges, and support better outcomes for both organizations and the communities they serve. As funding sources evolve and resources become more constrained, leaders are increasingly being asked to demonstrate the value of these investments.

Join Dr. Angela Jackson, founder of the Future Forward Institute and author of The Win-Win Workplace, for this two-part learning series designed specifically for healthcare leaders. Drawing on research and real-world examples, Dr. Jackson will share practical strategies for measuring and communicating the impact of workforce investments—from apprenticeships and career pathways to clinical training partnerships, youth programs, and incumbent worker advancement.

Session One (Virtual, 9/30/26, 10-11am): Participants will explore a practical framework for measuring the return on investment (ROI) of workforce initiatives, learn from healthcare organizations that have successfully connected workforce strategies to business and community outcomes, and identify the data and internal partners needed to build support for continued investment.

Session Two (In-Person Working Lab, 10/14/26, 2-3:30pm): Participants will apply the framework to a real workforce initiative from their own organization. Through facilitated discussion and peer learning, attendees will estimate costs and potential returns, identify data gaps, and develop a draft business case they can take back to their organization to support sustaining or expanding high-impact workforce programs.

Participants are encouraged to attend both sessions to gain the full benefit of the series and leave with practical tools they can immediately apply within their organizations.

Who Should Attend: This series is designed for healthcare workforce leaders, including professionals in workforce development, talent acquisition, HR, learning and development, and community partnerships. It will also be valuable for community benefit, strategy, and finance leaders interested in strengthening the case for workforce investments.
