Navigating Federal Changes: Impacts on the Health Workforce (June 2026 Quarterly Meeting)
Join us for a timely and collaborative discussion on how recent and anticipated federal policy changes are reshaping the health coverage landscape and placing new pressures on the health workforce. Hosted as expanded quarterly meeting of the Chicagoland Healthcare Workforce Collaborative, in partnership with the Public Health Workforce Collaborative, the Health First Collaborative, and Staying Strong, this session will bring together diverse stakeholders to better understand anticipated changes and what they mean in practice for workforce development practitioners and the health workforce.Â
Topics include:
- An overview of federal funding shifts, including changes to Medicaid, the ACA, and workforce funding
- The impact of these changes on health systems and the health workforce
- SNAP and Medicaid work requirements: what you need to know and how to support individuals navigating those changes
- Small group discussions to identify strategies to mitigate challenges and strengthen collective response effortsÂ
This session is designed to foster shared understanding, surface real-time challenges, and encourage coordinated action across organizations in this evolving policy environment.
About the Co-Hosts

- The Public Health Workforce Collaborative (PHWC) exists to coordinate, expand, and sustain the systems, structures, and supports necessary to assure a skilled, sustainable, responsive, and permanent public health workforce.
- Staying Strong is a flexible, rapid-response advocacy collaborative that convenes funders, policy experts, and community advocates when there’s an urgent need for collective action.Â
- The Health First Collaborative (HFC) is a standing, resourced initiative that leverages pooled funding, shared learning, and shared governance to support community-driven public health solutions through collective learning and strategic investment.Â
Both CHWC and PHWC are coordinated by the Health & Medicine Policy Research Group. Both Staying Strong and HFC are coordinated by the Michael Reese Health Trust.
