CHWC’s expanded June Quarterly Meeting focused on navigating federal policy changes and their anticipated impact on the health workforce. Topics included Medicaid cuts, Medicaid and SNAP work requirements, Job Ready Illinois (created to support individuals navigating those requirements), and anticipated reductions in workforce funding.

This follow-up session will provide brief updates on these issues before exploring additional topics identified through member surveys and participant feedback.

Part 1: Workforce Education Funding Shifts

• Funding and policy changes affecting community colleges and healthcare education programs (speaker TBD)
• Workforce Pell: a new opportunity for students to access federal financial aid for short-term training programs. Chris Warden of Women Employed will provide an overview of Workforce Pell, followed by comments from Sarah Lichtenstein Walter of City Colleges of Chicago on what implementation could look like in Chicago.

Part 2: Tracking & Documenting the Impacts of Federal Policy Changes

• Wesley Epplin of Health & Medicine Policy Research Group and Kate Albrecht, PhD, of UIC will share emerging efforts to track and document the local and regional impacts of federal policy changes on the health workforce & health collaboratives like CHWC.
• Participants will discuss what impacts they are experiencing, what data and stories can help document those impacts, and what a more systematic approach to data collection might look like.

The meeting will include presentations from subject matter experts, balanced with time for discussion, networking, and peer learning. Breakfast and free parking will be provided. All are welcome.
